Woodbridge resident Denzel Scott Wade, 23, is in custody days after 27-year-old Drew Courtney Buchanan was arrested and charged for the murder of the North Carolina native.

Investigators say they believe Buchanan pulled the trigger, but Wade was present at the time.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, shortly after 2 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, officers were called to the area of Bronson Court and Brickwood Drive in Woodbridge, where they found Carter suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle near an apartment complex with a small dog in the backseat.

The dog was unharmed.

Investigators say that a murder-for-hire was arranged to kill Carter, and detectives believe Buchanan carried out the act in murder in the victim, and Wade is believed to have been present at the time.

Both men were arrested in Manassas without incident.

Buchanan was charged with:

  • Second-degree murder;
  • Shooting into an occupied vehicle;
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Wade was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony.

Buchanan is being held without bond. His court date is pending. Wade's bond information was unavailable on Wednesday and his court date was also pending.

The investigation is ongoing.
